Power
No, his mind is not for rent
To any god or government
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren’t permanent
But change is
Rush-Tom Sawyer, lyric by Peart and Dubois
If you dare pay any attention to the news these days, it is pretty apparent we (humanity) are in a bit of a power struggle. It’s nothing new; humans have always fought, killed, and died for power, control, and riches. It’s tribalism at its best and is one of the ugliest, most destructive, and limiting aspects of the human condition. Just think about what life on Earth would be if we didn’t act like this.
But please, may I remind you about real power?
You are power, real power. Deep down, part of you knows what you are, but the most visible, tangible part has forgotten, and that is OK. This is how the game is played. It makes things more interesting.
You chose to incarnate here and now because of what is happening in the world, not despite it. There is no such thing as chance; we created this circumstance, but remember, it is nothing more than a dance.
You chose to cross all of space and time to be right here, right now, to create the magnificent vehicle you call your body and to experience what it is to be human. You made your life with your thoughts and choices, every bit of it. You came here to establish relationships, to learn what you love and what you don’t, about life and the ways of humankind. You chose to be here now, at this very moment, to consciously wield your power in the most compassionate ways, to spread love wherever you can, to light bonfires of joy wherever you go.
We can touch each other in so many ways.
It is so easily forgotten because we are inundated with noise, trivialities, confusion, and fear from noisy, trivial, confused, and fearful people who love to, and are very good at, using noise and trivialities to cause you to be confused and fearful. The first step towards inner peace? Stop listening to them.
Take back your power. Be utterly fearless. Endlessly seek clarity and truth. Let go of all guilt, shame, and regret. Cast away all doubt of your strength, beauty, and worthiness.
Take stock of your blessings until you can’t count them anymore. When life starts to crush you, reach for that timeless peace within that is the real you. Run over dogma with your karma whenever possible.
Practice radical compassion in the face of insanity; exude overwhelming forgiveness for those who hate. Annihilate scorn and ridicule with kindness; they will never know what hit them. No earthly entity can or should control you, though many will try. You are not here to be a slave in body, mind, or soul. You are as deserving and powerful as any person who has ever lived. You have every right to live peacefully and freely, to love who and what you want, to think and feel what you want, to use your time any way you want, to be what you want, and, most importantly, to be who you are.
Embrace this moment, wrap your arms around it, love it as if your life depended on it, and then remember what this is all about. Turn off the autopilot, take control, and be here now.
And remember, you are only human for a limited time—don’t get too hung up on it.
